While waiting for your appointment
In the case of a dental emergency, here are some temporary tips to help relieve your symptoms. These do not replace a consultation with your dentist and are not a diagnosis.
Swelling or suspected abscess
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water 4 times a day.
- Apply a cold compress or ice pack to your face.
Food or debris stuck between teeth
- Gently try to remove it using dental floss.
- If it doesn’t work, contact us.
Chipped or broken tooth
- Gently clean the affected area.
- Avoid chewing on the affected side.
- Maintain excellent oral hygiene.
- Avoid very hot, cold, or sugary foods.
Knocked-out tooth (avulsion)
A knocked-out tooth can sometimes be saved if reinserted quickly:
- Hold the tooth by the crown (top), avoiding contact with the root.
- If dirty, gently rinse it with saline solution (not tap water).
- Try to place it back in its socket.
- If successful, gently bite on a moist cloth.
- If not, keep it between your cheek and teeth until you arrive.
Tongue or lip bite
- Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth for about 10 minutes.
- If swollen, use a cold compress.
- Contact us if the bleeding doesn’t stop.
Bleeding gums
- Gently brush with an ultra-soft toothbrush and mild toothpaste.
- Good oral hygiene is essential to reduce inflammation.
- If bleeding persists, contact us promptly.
These tips do not constitute a diagnosis. They do not replace the advice of your dentist.
